Most organisations have a small number of people who need extra time and help to perform effectively. Underperformance comes in many guises, and may happen for a number of reasons, but managers may often shy away from addressing the issues. This means that the behaviour goes unchallenged, often to the annoyance of the rest of the team.

Handling these cases has been brought into sharp focus with the recent increase in new employment legislation, raised levels of compensation and the spiralling number of cases taken to Employment Tribunals.

All managers need to be able to handle these issues competently and fairly.

Approach

At Leornian our job is to make the complex simple. We can help in several different ways:

  • Reviewing your disciplinary procedures:
    • We keep ourselves abreast of the increasing changes in legislation, so we can review and update where needed.
  • Teaching managers what they need to know about employment law:
    • We have recently updated our acclaimed Grasping the Nettle computer-based learning package. In workshops we use this in highly creative ways to teach managers what they need to do to handle conduct or capability issues fairly - and to recognise when they need to involve their HR professional.
  • Helping managers to grasp the nettle:
    • Managers can only develop skills and confidence if they practise and get feedback, so that they can try something slightly different the next time.
    • We use professional role players to add realism, so that delegates hone skills and build confidence.

How we work with you

We can work with you to build a programme for your staff or, if you have already identified your training needs, we can provide workshops that exactly meet those needs.

Logistics

Our Grasping the Nettle workshops typically take one to two days, working with groups from 8 - 12 individuals.
