Performance Management
Managing performance is more than an annual appraisal. It is a series of practices focusing on achieving individual, team and organisational objectives.
An appraisal interview is a planned discussion between a manager and a member of staff to review progress, identify training needs and set objectives.
Benefits
Managers have the skills and confidence to:
- Get the best from their team and the individuals in it.
- Apply a process for managing performance.
- Plan and conduct an effective appraisal.
- Diagnose and resolve performance problems.
Staff will be clearer on their priorities and better motivated, so that productivity improves.
Approach
We identify and develop the skills, motivation and commitment of managers, helping them focus the performance of their staff by setting objectives, providing appropriate feedback, recognition and support.
We provide workshops for managers who conduct appraisals and for staff being appraised.
We explore the crucial factors behind successful appraisals and the ways in which both staff and managers can achieve their desired outcomes. Whenever possible we use your organisation's procedures and forms.
We may use Persona's 'Managing Performance' diagnostic to provide feedback.
Development Method
A typical workshop to develop appraisal skills contains:
- What an appraisal is, and what it is not.
- Objectives of an appraisal.
- Organisation's policy, process and paperwork.
- Preparation.
- Setting objectives aligned to organisational, departmental and individual needs.
- Structure of the meeting.
- Questioning & listening skills.
- Analysing development needs.
- Handling poor performance issues.
- Agreeing an action plan .
- Roleplay exercises to develop skills.
How we work with you
Every company is different and every employee is an individual. To reflect this, we tailor all training to the specific needs and culture of your organisation. We can work with you to build a programme for your staff or, if you have already identified your training needs, we can provide workshops which meet those needs exactly.
Logistics
Workshops typically take one to two days for groups of six to twelve people, depending on the amount of practice needed to develop skills. 'Preparing for your own appraisal' workshops might cover two to four hours for groups of up to twelve.
